City of Poets
About Me
My name is Holden, and I am an Engineer who’s passionate about programming, robotics, and human’s ability to control dynamical systems. My goal is to study and shed light on the forgotten intersection of art and engineering that is cybernetics and cybernetic systems, whether those systems are biologically or artificially inspired.
This blog is my personal knowledge space, where I post random tidbits, guides, or just document the current projects that I’m working on. Hopefully you’ll find something useful here.
Feel free to also check out my Github, which I will frequently reference as I post articles, documentation, and whatever else.
Both the front-end and back-end for this blog are written entirely from scratch using a minimalistic approach in order to ensure that it is as performant and responsive as possible. I will be posting an article soon on how I built the site. The back-end is written in Golang (the GOTH stack), using server-side rendering with templ and a splash of HTMX.
Feel free to send me an Email if you have questions, site issues, requests, or anything else.
I’ll leave you with a nice quote:
Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.
-Franz Kafka
Civitas Poetarum et Machinum
This blog draws a lot of inspiration from the general field of cybernetics and the coexistence of humans and machine. Humans have always been fascinated with feedback systems, both chaotic and finite-dimensional. These systems are a part of our every day lives in ways that most people would never expect. Throughout this blog we’ll explore some of these feedback system along with various topics in robotics, bioengineering, programming, control theory, and many more.
The title of the blog is inspired by the Hyperion Cantos series by Dan Simmons. Hyperion, a planet depicted in the series, is home to the City of Poets. The entire series is often referred to as Hyperion Cantos, however the Hyperion Cantos is an epic poem written by a character in the series. 1
